Resources to Inspire Future Female Engineers

Happy Girl Day 2017! The number of female engineers has greatly improved over the last 30 years; however, it is still relatively low (check out the National Science Board Science & Engineering Indicators to see the stats.) The resources listed below are not just for girls, but the focus is towards making sure we inspire more of them to join the engineering workforce!

 

IEEE Women in Engineering – One of the largest international professional organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests to a career in engineering.

 

GP-4C-StackedGirl Powered – The REC Foundation launched Girl Powered, in collaboration with VEX Robotics, Inc., to double the number of girls on robotics teams over the next five years. Their website provides support tools for teams and coaches to successfully reach out and engage more girls in the classroom and on the competition field!

 

 

Exciting Adventures of Constance and NanoSociety of Women Engineers (another great organization to check out) has created a comic book series to encourage girls to become engineers! Join Constance and Nano on their engineering adventures to see how fun solving problems with science, engineering, technology and math can be.

 

43 Most Powerful Female Engineers in 2017 – We know all of the great females engineers that led the way, but what about those in the field now? Business Insider put together a great list showcasing the women out there innovating today!

 

Engineer Girl Website – Designed to bring national attention to the exciting opportunities that engineering represents for girls and women, this website has it all! Tons of great resources and information to inspire those future engineers!

 

 

MIT article on why women leave engineering. Knowing the problem can allow us to figure out ways to improve the situation for future female engineers!
