Female Students in STEM White Paper

Female students are much less likely than males to major in STEM or STEM-related majors. Only 19.3% of the bachelor’s degrees in engineering are earned by women (National Girls Collaborative Project, 2016). Only 19% of AP Computer Science students are females. The disproportionately low number of female students who pursue STEM studies and careers – particularly in engineering and computer science – is of concern to Robomatter, Inc. because we take pride in developing courses that are accessible to all students. Our recent white paper considers and reports on some possible reasons why female students might pursue STEM at lower rates than male students. We also propose plans for raising those rates.
